The Nintendo Switch was the top-selling gaming console of 2019. Since then, the mania for the popular device has grown.
While the supply and demand were evenly matched since the Switch’s initial launch, a Charlotte Observer field study shows that folks have been “panic-buying the Nintendo Switch like it’s toilet paper.” They concluded that this was widely due to the majority of the country being under quarantine.
The publication spoke with Bryan Mapes, an American gamer who admittedly resorted to video games to abide by the recommended push for no social gatherings. Mapes revealed that it was a struggle even to find one console since the quarantine took effect.
“There were only two available in the entire 50-mile radius at Target,” he said. “So we had to go to one Target, buy the Switch, then buy Mario Kart at a different Target.”
Since the article published on April 4, 2020, leading online retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and Target have consistently sold out of Nintendo Switches. The Observer added that several customers have even resorted to purchasing the consoles from third-party sellers on eBay, Facebook and even Craigslist to satisfy their fix.
Though the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con console completely sold out across retailers for months, a few have recently been restocked at Overstock.
The massive retailer also has a wide selection of Nintendo Switch Lite bundles (in several colors) in stock. Each comes with a selection of games, memory cards, accessories and more.
