4 kids’ TV shows parents will actually enjoy

Puffin Rock TV shows for kids

Parents are spending more time than ever at home with their kids, which in most cases, is a wonderful thing. But what isn’t always wonderful is having to sit through your kid’s TV shows. Thankfully, there are some gems out there that parents might begin to love as much as their kids do. Here are some of our favorites.

Nature Cat

Nature Cat teaches kids about nature and the environment, and young viewers will love the adventure-packed stories and silly characters. Plus, the cast is filled with Saturday Night Live alums and current cast members like Taran Killam, Kate McKinnon, Kenan Thompson, and Bobby Moynihan, who add a consistent dose of humor to the show that parents will definitely enjoy. Nature Cat’s run came to an end in 2020, but you can find old episodes on YouTube.

Ask the StoryBots

The Netflix original series uses a cast of robots to teach kids about a wide range of topics, from “How Do Airplanes Fly?” to “Where do French Fries Come From?” StoryBots answers questions that, let’s face it, most grown ups don’t know the answers to either.  Each episode also has a celebrity guest that parents will definitely get a kick out of. Past guests include “Weird Al” Yankovic, Snoop Dogg, Zoë Saldaña and Edward Norton. Who could pass up seeing Edward Norton on a kids’ show?

Peg + Cat

Peg + Cat follows a detailed math curriculum, so it’s a great way to jumpstart the career of your future engineer. While kids learn and practice math staples like division and fractions, parents will enjoy the unique aesthetic of the show, and the funny characters (especially the super sassy Cat). Peg + Cat has long been a favorite of both kids and parents. The show has won seven Daytime Emmy awards. That’s a lot of trophies! Luckily, we know someone who can help you count all of them.

Puffin Rock

The Irish animated series, which is narrated by actor Chris O’Dowd, is basically Planet Earth for preschoolers. Puffin Rock stars a young puffin named Oona and her brother Baba as they explore an island, learning about nature along the way. The show has a beautiful animation style that allows viewers of all ages to appreciate the natural wonders featured in the episodes. Even if exploring remote islands with Irish puffins somehow doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, O’Dowd’s dry humor should be enough to keep you entertained.
