A hot air balloon collided with electrical lines near a highway in Kazakhstan — no one was on the balloon nor injured.
The unthinkable moment was captured on camera in the Turan district of Shymkent City on May 6. The colorful hot air balloon launched into powerlines by a gust of wind. It slowly collapsed onto the road where some cars stopped but others continued to drive under the massive balloon as it deflated.
“We noticed something was wrong from distance because it was heading to the road. The drivers stopped before it could crash on them but then it hit the power lines,” onlooker, Nurzhan Baibakhov told Newsflare.
Luckily, no one was in the aircraft when the accident happened. However, during the crash, an electric spark triggered a blackout that cut the power supply to nearly 4,000 households.
“The hot air balloon was reported to have been blown away by a strong gust of wind. The owner was not able to control it then before it reached the road,” local police said, according to Newsflare.
A repair team was dispatched to remove the balloon and electricity was restored in the area after about 24 hours. The hot balloon owner was charged by the Karatau District Police Department with “careless destruction” and “damage to property.”
