I think all of us have been in some sort of funk from being stuck inside for the majority of the past year. I cannot wait to finally start going out again more, using every excuse I can to dress cute AF.
That being said, I always hated summer, because I felt like I simply couldn’t wear summer clothes due to my curvier body type. But, through the past eight months of my TikTok journey, I realized that is not the case. It is 100% harder for curvier and plus-sized people to shop, but if you put in the time and effort, you will find what works for you — yes, even in the summertime!
The one thing that has boosted my body confidence so much this year is simply finding clothes that actually fit my body and are comfortable and cute at the same time.
Here are the top 10 trends that I can’t wait to bring into my wardrobe this summer.
Mules
I am more than ecstatic that high-high heels aren’t the trend when it comes to shoes right now. We can pretend they’re comfortable, but let’s be real — they’re not. I’m obsessed with all of these mules I’m seeing with more of a mid-heel because I can actually walk in them, and they’re adorable at the same time.
Good American Single Strap Chain Mule, $169
ASOS Braided Heeled Mules, $40.99
Crochet
I’ve never really worn anything crochet before, but I’m loving the look of it. Whether it’s a fun, colorful bucket hat or a flowy, oversized shirt for the beach, I will definitely be buying some crochet pieces for the summer.
Urban Outfitters Kora Crochet Bucket Hat, $26
Zara Crocheted Shirt, $119
Headscarves
I think this is one of my favorite looks right now. Matching a headscarf with your bathing suit just makes for a whole mood, and that’s something I’m here for. Anyone else?
Boohoo Tie Dye Bandana, $4.80
FashionNova New Attitude Head Scarf, $5.99
Cutouts
We all know I love showing a little bit of skin, both in my try-on hauls and my day-to-day outfits. It makes me feel sexier and more confident. Of course, that might not go for everyone, but whether it’s cutout bodysuits, tanks, long-sleeved shirts or even jeans with cutouts in the hip area, I’m personally all for this trend!
Eloquii Cutout Neckline Tank, $44.95
Abercrombie & Fitch Seamless High-Leg Bodysuit, $39
Corsets
I personally think that corsets are one of the most flattering pieces of clothing, no matter what size you are. I love a structured look and think everyone looks good in one. It’s one of those pieces of clothing people are afraid to wear, but I think it’s worth trying out.
House of CB Ninetta Chocolate Mesh Corset, $105
PrettyLittleThing Plus Nude Square Neck Corset Top, $21
Ruffles
I wouldn’t say that ruffles really fall in line with my overall style, but I’m always willing to give any new trend a shot. They definitely add excitement to simple pieces of clothing, and I’m always down for some excitement!
Missguided Plus Size Lilac Floral Wrap Ruffle Mini Dress, $26
H&M Flounce-Trimmed Crop Top, $24.99
Colorful Blazers
If you know me, you know I could throw a blazer over every outfit I own. I truly think it is a staple piece that you need to have in your closet. At least one… or maybe, like, 20! But a colorful one? Now that is a statement.
PrettyLittleThing Plus Yellow Shoulder Padded Blazer, $35.50
ASOS Plus Oversized Dad Blazer, $79
Three-Piece Matching Sets
I’ve always been into two-piece matching sets, but three is another story! I cannot wait to get these three-piece sets. Matchy-matchy is in, and I love the look so much.
Zara 3-Piece Look, $268.80
Free People Three’s A Charm Set, $128
Puff Sleeves
I’ve always really liked puff sleeves because I think they’re super flattering and offer more fabric if you’re someone like me, who might be a little insecure about your arms. I especially like puff-sleeve shirts with a more fitted bodice or ruching, like the two below.
Nasty Gal Plus Size Ruched Mesh Puff Sleeve Blouse, $30.60
Reformation Spring Linen Dress, $248
Shoulder Bags
This has been a trend all spring and will definitely continue through the summer and fall. I was always a crossbody bag kind of girl, but I’ve finally given in to the 2000s trend of small, trendy shoulder bags. Whether it has a fun pattern or a bright color, any kind of shoulder bag goes these days.
Zara Pleated Satin Effect Shoulder Bag, $35.90
Forever 21 Grosgrain-Strap Shoulder Bag, $7.20
