As a beauty editor, I can confirm that many products out on the market are unnecessary. A hair oil though? Nope, definitely necessary.
Hair oil has many benefits, no matter your hair type or texture. First of all, oils protect the hair follicle by filling the gap between cuticle cells, which is the very scientific way of saying that oils seal your hair strands. Also, if you have had chemical treatments (yes, even dying your hair), intense heat damage or styling done, you can benefit from hair oils.
Although different oils will do different things, many hair oils share common ingredients, including coconut, sesame, almond, argan and moringa. As someone with thick hair that runs dry from all of the bleaching, I have found some hair oils to be better than others in locking and sealing in moisture.
So, what are the best hair oils to use, according to a beauty editor?
1. Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Scalp & Hair Strengthening Oil, $9.99
This rosemary and mint hair oil has biotin and encourages hair growth and restoration. It’s also great if you like a minty feeling on the scalp!
2. EDEN BodyWorks Nourishing Scalp Massaging Serum, $8.86 (Orig. $9.25)
Although this is a hair serum, it acts as a hair oil. It nourishes, soothes and moisturizes the hair without leaving buildup. Also, the papaya scent is heavenly!
3. Dominican Forbidden Oil, $22
This is a super lightweight multipurpose oil that has castor oil, black cumin seed oil, coffee seed oil and rosemary extract. Also it is Black and Latinx owned!

This hair oil is good for your hair, scalp and beard. Seriously, it is a very affordable and helpful 3-in-1 beauty must-have.
