TikTok is obsessed with a popular karaoke app and the results are hilarious.
The singing app Smule has been around for almost a decade, but TikTok users have recently discovered it. People are sharing their karaoke experiences on the singing app — and it’s wild.
What is Smule?
Smule is an interactive karaoke app you can use with friends and strangers. It originally launched as Sing! Karaoke in 2012. Not only does the app let you choose from a broad selection of popular songs, but you can duet live with anyone, anywhere.
One of its most unique features is the ability to duet with famous artists, like J Balvin, Jason Derulo and Luis Fonsi.
The app has four and a half out of five stars in the App Store.
“I have been on Smule now for over three years and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!” one reviewer said.
“Saying I looooove this app would be an understatement. I’ve been here since 2015,” another commented.
But TikTok seems to be especially fond of it. The #smule hashtag has over 125 million views.
How does Smule work?
Smule has three different options: solo, duet and group performance. Users can share their performances with the community or keep them private. You can also record video, audio or both using the app.
The app uses audio and video filters, props, backgrounds and effects for extra fun.
Why is Smule so engaging?
Smule users tend to spend 57 minutes on the app on average, compared to 34 minutes on TikTok and 44 minutes on Facebook.
With user-generated content on the rise, thanks to social media and the added effect of global lockdowns, it makes sense that users are looking for virtual ways to connect and have fun.
TikTokers having fun with Smule
The user @m1chaelceraluvr found it hilarious when a Michael Cera fan on Smule burped in the middle of her karaoke.
“I’m so sorry,” she said before she continued singing.
When someone dueted “Castaways” by the Backyardigans, @sophiakirsteins couldn’t stop laughing.

But @user9917771634827 could barely hold it together during a duet when their singing partner used a wild voice to perform Syko’s “#BrooklynBloodPop!”
“I actually like it more than the OG song,” one person commented.
“I just dueted them and I stopped singing just to laugh,” another said.
After dueting “Good Little Girl,” a song from Adventure Time, with a stranger, @pl4ntl0v3r2 deleted the app when their singing partner bust out laughing at the sound of their voice.
“I’m sorry but that was the best laugh I have ever heard,” someone said.
“Never delete this please, I’m dying,” a user joked.
