One tattoo artist’s specialty is inking designs that look just like real stickers.
Luke Cormier is an award-winning tattoo artist hailing from Newfoundland, Canada. He creates jaw-droppingly realistic optical illusion tattoos that look like stickers stuck right onto the skin. His tats reference your favorite vintage cartoon characters like Bam Bam from The Flintstones, Super Mario and The Powerpuff Girls’ Blossom.
What makes Cormier’s tattoos appear like they’re almost 3D, besides his skillful artwork, is the thick white ink outline around each character. But it was almost happenstance that he started to include the signature feature of his work.
“Everyone said my tattoos looked like stickers,” Cormier told My Modern Met. “So it just made sense to add a white background and make them look like actual real stickers.”
He also makes the white border look like it’s creasing while adding shadows behind it so the tattoos seem as though they’re popping off the skin.
Despite having 128,000 Instagram followers and 460,000 TikTok followers, being a prominent tattoo artist wasn’t always his goal.
“I’m not too sure, to be honest, how the tattoo appeared in my life, everyone just had tattoos where I grew up, it was a pretty normal thing,” Cormier told Bored Panda. “I fell into tattooing by accident. I wanted to be a piercer but ended up tattooing.”
