These TikTok parents shared the moment they first met their adopted son, and it’s so moving!
Shelby Henigman (@shelbyhenigman) is the mom of an adorable 6-month-old baby boy. In honor of her baby’s half birthday, Shelby recently shared an incredibly moving video showing the first time she and her husband met their new baby, who they adopted as a newborn.
The video, which racked up over 6.1 million views on TikTok, shows the love Shelby and her husband Cody had for their adopted son from the first time they set eyes on him.
The video begins with Shelby and Cody walking through an empty hospital corridor. A caption reads, “Six months ago, we waited in a quiet hospital hallway as the most incredible woman we know welcomed our son into the world.”
Shelby and Cody stand in the hallway, nervously waiting for their baby to arrive. Overwhelmed by emotion, Shelby covers her face, while Cody rubs her back to calm her. After a moment, a nurse appears on screen, pushing a pram with a newborn baby boy lying in it.
Shelby clasps her hands over her mouth as she and Cody look down on their new baby for the first time. Then, the new mom tentatively reaches out to stroke her son’s cheek.
In the next shot, Shelby is shown holding her baby boy on her lap. As he quietly dozes, she rubs his cheek, and stares down at him lovingly.
Then, in the following shot, Cody holds his baby for the first time. He lightly bounces the baby on his lap, while grinning joyfully at the camera.
Finally, in a photo montage, Shelby shares photos of herself, Cody, their new baby, and their baby’s birth mother. In one photo, the baby’s birth mother stands over the baby’s crib. In another, Cody, Shelby, and the birth mother all pose together with the baby, who is lying in his carrier.
The video ends with a photo of the newborn baby, lying in bed, holding one of his parents’ hands.
Viewers shared how moved they were by the emotional video in the comments section.
“All I see in that video is selfless unconditional love from all of those parents. That is a lucky baby to be loved so well,” one viewer wrote.
“Omg you guys. I’m on my way to work and now my makeup is running. Congrats and thank you. Love, an adopted girl,” another TikToker commented.
Several viewers even shared their own adoption stories.
“I was that mom 21 years ago, and it is the hardest, most beautiful thing I’ve ever done,” one TikToker wrote.
“As an adoptee, I am crying. This is beautiful. Thank you for honoring his birth mother as well. My parents always spoke of my birth mom in the kindest [way],” replied another viewer.
Cody and Shelby clearly love their adopted son deeply. In the caption of the video, they write, “Happy 1/2 birthday to the boy who changed our hearts forever.”
