It’s no secret that traveling with only a carry-on suitcase is easier than checking a big bag. For starters, you’re less likely to lose your bag, and secondly, you’ll never be too far from all of your necessities, in case you need them along your journey.

But not all carry-ons are small enough to fit in the overhead compartment on a plane (even if that’s their intended purpose), and those without wheels can be too heavy to carry.

Australian luggage brand July has the solve.

July officially launched in the U.S. in July 2021, and it claims to make the “lightest double-wheel suitcase in the world.” Its Carry On Light weighs only 3.9 pounds, so you can carry more stuff without worrying about the wheels dragging, the handles getting stuck or not being able to carry it to your destination. Plus, it comes in eight stylish colors. Get it in a neutral shade like white, charcoal gray or sand, or go bold with sky blue, forest green or burgundy.

The hard German polycarbonate outer shell protects your things from damage, and the interior is water-resistant with stain-proof nylon lining. There’s also an included TSA lock for keeping your things extra safe.

Compared to other high-end, direct-to-consumer luggage brands like Away and Monos, July’s Carry On Light is about three pounds lighter than the average carry-on suitcase. That may not sound like a lot, but it will feel like it when you’re running to your gate.

“This is the lightest suitcase I’ve [ever] felt and it looks incredible!” one reviewer wrote on the website. “Love the personalization. I will be keeping this baddie forever and [will] only purchase July luggage from now on.”

However, July’s Carry On Light does have a slightly smaller interior capacity at 38 liters. Away’s Carry-On holds 39.8 liters, while Monos’ holds 39.9 liters.

The only potential downside to July’s luggage is the price — it’s not cheap. The Carry On Light retails for $225. (Although, that price is right on par with other brands.) You can also personalize your suitcase with your name, initials or anything else for an additional $50. Plus, July’s luggage all ships for free and comes with a 100-day trial and lifetime warranty on manufacturing faults, even if you get yours personalized.

According to July’s About page, its luggage is designed to last forever, so its price matches its high quality. The company says it was sick of seeing “over-priced goods sold with a short product lifespan.”

“We read over 4,000 reviews of existing cases and began designing around fixing what was wrong with other luggage brands,” the site says. “We needed better reinforcement of corners and bends, a handle that has more than three heights and wheels that last a lifetime of hard use. The result is what you see today.”

That’s good news for anyone who travels a little or a lot. Luggage is often quite expensive, and it usually needs replacing every one to two years, depending on the number of trips you take. July’s luggage is designed to last for many years, so it’s a solid investment.

You can shop July’s super light carry-on suitcase above and check out more of its quality luggage — including its Carry On Trunk and standard Carry On — on its website. And seriously, if you’re traveling in the near future, you definitely should.
