Toddler’s pronunciation of ‘tomato’ has TikTok obsessed: ‘Cuteness overload’

Learning a new language isn’t always easy, especially if you’re a toddler. Getting down the correct pronunciation is key to being a proficient speaker. But when your mouth isn’t developed enough to form all those new vowels and sounds, things can get a little hairy.

Rozzie is a toddler with 93,000 TikTok followers. The little one is still learning to speak and develop her vocabulary. In February 2020, Rozzie racked up 9.6 million views when she tried to pronounce “tomato.” The three-syllable word seemed to totally elude her, even with some help from dad

In the video, the father tried to give the little girl a lesson in language. He explained each syllable to her, piece by piece. Then he tried to get Rozzie to put all the sounds together. It did not work the way he had hoped.

“Can you say ‘toe’?” he asked her.

“Toe,” Rozzie said.

“May?” the dad responded.

“May,” the toddler said.

“Toe,” the father stated.

“Toe,” she repeated.

“To-ma-to,” he said.

“Moe-nah-may-toe,” Rozzie said with total confidence.

The hilarious clip received 1.2 million views on TikTok. Rozzie charmed the commentariat.

“Cuteness overload,” one person wrote

“She’s adorable. She gets excited sounding out the word,” another said

“The cutest thing on the planet,” someone added
