When you can’t decide between wearing your hair up or down, why not choose both? In this episode of In The Know: Hair School, celebrity hairstylist and host Justine Marjan shares her tips and tricks for achieving simple and stylish half-up half-down hairstyles.

The first half-up half-down look Marjan demonstrates is for curly hair. Before styling the model’s hair, Marjan applies some TRESemmé Flawless Curls Hair Oil throughout her curls to avoid frizz. Then, Marjan sections the hair from the top of the ear through the crown of the head on both sides. Once the hair has been gathered, Marjan twists it at the base and rotates the twist forward so the curls are visible from the front. Then, using a U shaped hair pin, Marjan secures the twist.

Next up is a simple half-up half-down look with a unique detail. Marjan begins by gathering half of the model’s hair and secures it with a scunci hair elastic. Then, the hairstylist takes a section of hair directly under the ponytail and puts an elastic around it, a few inches down from the top. Next, Marjan splits the hair above the elastic in the second ponytail and pulls the top ponytail through it, creating an elegant twist from the back.
The third and final look is a pull through braid, for people who want to achieve the look of a braid without actually braiding their hair. First, Marjan gathers half of the model’s hair and loosely secures it with an elastic. Then, the hairstylist creates a split in the hair above the elastic, and pulls the ponytail up through it. Next, Marjan takes a section of hair directly underneath the ponytail, and splits it into two sections that she then pulls forward and secures with an elastic in front of the original ponytail. Then, Marjan splits the original ponytail into two sections and brings those forward and secures it with an elastic. She repeats this process until the look is complete!
