A man excluded his wife from any involvement with a house he inherited. Now she’s furious.
He shared the issue on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum. His parents left him a house that he decided to give to his daughter. The problem is, in the event of his or her death, the wife has no claim to the home whatsoever.
“I inherited a house from my parents after their death,” he explained. “I wrote it off in my daughter’s name without consulting with my wife. My daughter will get it after she’s 21. Until then, it will be in my guardianship and, in case of my death, the guardianship will be transferred to her godparent (my best friend) or my lawyer. No one except me, my daughter and my lawyer can access the money within it. In case of her death, my lawyer will be looking into transferring it to someone else.”
The husband didn’t understand why his wife was upset about the arrangement.
“My wife says I should’ve thought of her first instead of my daughter’s godparent,” he said. “I told her that inheritance is not marital property and I did not think it was required of me to consult her about my own inheritance. She was pissed and said that I should be trusting her enough to make such decisions with her.”
Redditors thought the husband screwed up here.
“Why did you get married and stay married if you can’t trust your wife to help make big decisions?” a user said.
“She is the mother of that baby, this behavior is insane to me,” someone commented.
“This is wild to me,” another wrote.
