This stainless steel cookware has an aluminum core, which ensures maximum heat retention and even heat distribution. This means your food cooks the same all around the pan. It can also take on extremely hot temperatures, and it’s oven-safe up to 500° F. The aluminum core comes bonded to the stainless steel interior, and the set has a brushed stainless exterior. Stainless steel doesn’t discolor or react with food, so this cookware should last you a while.

A few other good-to-know features: Cuisinart’s Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel cookware features cool-grip handles, tight-fitting lids (dishwasher safe) and drip-free tapered rims.

Keep in mind, however, that stainless steel cookware does not have a nonstick coating. But many people now prefer stainless steel as many nonstick pans utilize chemicals in their coating, which could be toxic under extreme heat.

Robert L. Wolke, Ph.D., a professor emeritus of chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh and author of “What Einstein Told His Cook: Kitchen Science Explained,” spoke with Good Housekeeping on the topic of Teflon, the chemical compound often used to make the nonstick coating on cookware.

“There’s a whole chemistry set of compounds that will come off when Teflon is heated high enough to decompose,” Wolke said. “Many of these are fluorine-containing compounds, which as a class are generally toxic.”

Chemours, the current owner of Teflon (Dupont invented it in 1938), recommends not heating nonstick pans over 500° F but says that the nonstick coating will begin to deteriorate at 660° F. Though this sounds extremely hot, a preheated pan can reach this temperature in about five minutes.

If you want a new cookware set that is safe and versatile, shop this chic Cuisinart set on sale now.
