More teams are gearing up for ITK Bowl 2022. This Friday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. EST, some of football’s star players will compete against some of the biggest names in esports in a live Call of Duty: Vanguard tournament.
Players will compete for the $10,000 charity prize awarded to a nonprofit of their choice. We’ve already let Team One (LA Guerrillas’ Apathy and the 49ers’ Fred Warner) and Team Two (LA Guerrillas’ UnRationaL and the Saints’ Mark Ingram II) talk their smack. Now let’s hear from the pros on Team Three and Team Four.
Team Three
Martin “Cheen” Chino, LA Guerrillas
Cheen is a retired Call of Duty player who started competing at the age of 15 and went pro at 16. He has since taken a step back from competing to focus on Warzone streaming content, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t playing to win ITK Bowl 2022.
“This weekend, I’m coming back. I’m taking back the crown,” Cheen tells In The Know. “I’m coming to literally wipe the floor with all of you guys. I know I don’t trash talk much, but it’s a new year.”
Garrett Wilson, Ohio State Buckeyes
Wilson is a wide receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio State University. He is the second Buckeye ever to play four straight games with at least 100 yards receiving. Wilson has been a Call of Duty fan for eight years and thinks being a receiver helps him with his hand-eye coordination.
“Me and Cheen are going to have to get comfortable with each other,” Wilson says of his gameplay. “I like to really get under the skin. I’m confident in my Call of Duty ability, and I definitely should be looked at as a threat.”
Team Four
JGOD is a streamer and YouTuber with 1.14 million subscribers. He has been gaming since the days of Super Nintendo. JGOD is almost 34, and while his reflexes aren’t as quick as some of the younger players, he does have a few tricks up his sleeve.
“I think people should watch,” JGOD explains. “I think people will be surprised at how much I actually know about the game and play the game beyond just analytics. A lot of people playing, maybe they’re not current pros, so anyone could win!”
Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks
Lockett is a wide receiver for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. He’s been playing Call of Duty for years, but the lockdowns have made him more invested in the game.
“I think it’s really about strategy,” Lockett says. “And really, it’s all about sticking together. It’s very team-oriented. It’s those types of things that help you learn. I play football, so you got to learn how to communicate. You learn how to find a middle ground in order to transfer knowledge and communication to be able to help your team win.”
