While you might not immediately think that your body lotion and your kitchen have something in common, you will.

Kate McLeod started off as a pastry chef and bakery owner, but started formulating her own cocoa butter-based body moisturizer after being introduced to the raw ingredient by her sister-in-law. After combining cocoa butter with sweet almond, apricot kernel, avocado and fractionated coconut, she knew she had something special.

McLeod spent two years developing her cult-favorite Body Stones. Named for their shape, Body Stones fit perfectly in the palm of your hand and melt on contact with your skin, but remain in their solid form when not in use.

Each plant-based Body Stone is 100% vegan and preservative-free. According to the brand’s website, “Kate’s mission is to create safe, effective products that bring intentioned moments of self care to everyday routines.” And since these stones come in the brand’s signature reusable bamboo canisters and muslin bags, the brand touts that its products are both waste- and plastic-free.

Each Body Stone is hand-poured in the Hudson Valley and lasts for four to six weeks. Not only are Body Stones great for those looking to try something new or more eco-conscious, but these stones are also sure to be a total upgrade to your regular lotion: “Traditional body lotions tend to be formulated with only 2-3% cocoa butter, diluted with tons of water and a cocktail of harsh chemicals, additives, alcohols, and the ever vague ‘fragrance.'” Even actress Naomi Watts counts herself as a fan!

To get the most out of every Stone, the brand suggests warming it between your hands for a few seconds and then applying it sparingly to dry skin —  a little goes a long way and each body part will only need one to two strokes. Then you can massage in all of that cocoa buttery goodness.

Kate McLeod offers eight Body Stones (including a Sex Stone and a maternity-friendly Mama Stone) and one Face Stone, as well as mini sizes and gift sets. Shop a few of the brand’s best sellers below and treat your skin!
