Most immune-boosting supplements are just … OK tasting. There are vitamin C gummies, elderberry syrups, fizzy drinks and vitamin capsules. However, I recently gave Smpl’s Immunity Bar a try. It’s a small snack bar packed with good-for-you superfoods — and it tastes amazing.

First of all, the 100-calorie Immunity Bar is made with elderberry, probiotics and vitamin C. However, it also contains almonds, quinoa, flaxseed, strawberries, blueberries and cranberries. Needless to say, it tastes like a mixed berry snack bar.

I’m sure you know what vitamin C is, but if you’re new to elderberry extract, it has actually been used for centuries as a natural cold and flu fighter, among other things. One study done by researchers in Israel found that an elderberry extract supplement could shorten the flu by four days. However, it’s important to note that another study done by the Cleveland Clinic contradicted those results and found that it had no effect on flu patients.

So you may have to try elderberry extract for yourself and talk to your doctor to decide if it works for you. Personally, I’ve used the syrups and now these bars, and I think they help me feel better faster when I feel a cold coming on. Keep in mind, these bars also have vitamin C and probiotics in them — both of which have been proven to support your immune system.

The brand suggests “eating an immunity bar every day for a week to begin feeling the vast immunity benefits like improved cognitive function, decreased inflammation and increased energy.” However, it recommends not eating more than three in one day.
