A dog breeder’s trick for getting her dogs used to fireworks has got people talking.
TikToker @just.us.frenchies is a French bulldog breeder, so she’s always caring for puppies. Pet owners know that whenever loud noises suddenly strike animals get anxious or frightened, and some even hide. In the case of fireworks, the breeder found a way to get her puppies used to the noise from an early age. She called the process “sound desensitization.”
“Working on sound sensitivity by playing firework sounds,” she wrote. “I started at a lower volume and slowly increased it. I did it while they were eating to make sure they have a positive association as well. They both did great.”
In the video, the two French bulldog pups feasted away at the food in their bowls while a large television showed a firework display. The puppies seemed completely unfazed by the noise and far more interested in their food.
“It’s really important and can make all the difference for them later in life!” she added in the comment section.
People praised the dog breeder for the useful tip.
“Desensitization is crucial! Our Lab sits with us while we do fireworks and could care less about thunder!” someone wrote.
“This is brilliant! My poor Pitbull is TERRIFIED of fireworks and thunder to the point where she hides in the bathroom and shakes,” another said.
“We live right behind Magic Kingdom and I never realized how beneficial it was that he grew up hearing fireworks nightly,” a person commented.
