Jennifer Aydin knows what it takes to succeed on Real Housewives, and it’s pretty simple: Just be honest.
During her first four seasons on The Real Housewives of New Jersey, the mother of five has won over fans with her brutal honesty and willingness to say what nobody else is, seemingly in an effort to move storylines along but also because she knows that viewers can easily spot inauthenticity.
In a new interview for In The Know’s pop culture interview series We Should Talk, Aydin opens up about the current season of RHONJ airing on Bravo, where she stands with various castmates, the recent robbery at her New Jersey home and what fans can expect from the upcoming reunion.

On the recent robbery at her home: We’re going full force on damage control and how we can prevent something like this from happening ever again. […] Authorities believe that these perpetrators did not know they were getting a Ferrari. The authorities in Paramus, who have been amazing, by the way, said that Paramus has been very hot with these situations — about two car thefts a day have been reported! I think they just thought, “Big house? Big cars are soon to follow.” […] Authorities were telling me to be prepared that the car was probably not going to be retrieved. I don’t think that these kids — and you could see [on the security footage] that they’re kids — knew what to do with it. Once I posted it on my social media, there was so much heat — the fans were amazing. Part of me hesitated about posting it, but I called on my fans for help, and we retrieved the car. We just got very lucky. My son, Justin, was passing them as they were leaving the driveway. I could not even imagine if he had pulled up 30 seconds earlier because, the way that my driveway is, he would’ve been blocking their exit. The authorities believe that they were armed because of the way one of them was holding on to his right-hand pocket the whole time, so I’m just grateful they didn’t cross paths. I’m grateful they didn’t come into the house.
On why she thinks her honesty threatens her RHONJ co-stars: A lot of people can’t handle my honesty. I think the more honest I am, even some of my cast members probably look at me and think, “Why is she being so honest? Now we have to be so honest and we don’t like being honest, and she’s being honest and now she’s making us look bad!” That’s why I think they sometimes get very threatened by me. That’s how I feel with some of the people on this show. I was reading some of the excerpts from the book Diamonds and Rose, and it was Jackie acknowledging that she wanted to hide some of her wealth and some aspects of her life. That’s not me — I’m on a reality show, and I get that we have to show the good the bad and the ugly if you want to do well on this show.
On what viewers can expect from the upcoming RHONJ reunion: I do feel that it was very emotionally and physically exhausting. We were there for 10 hours, almost! Just sitting in the chair. I do feel that there was a lot of stuff that actually wasn’t resolved. At the end of the day, there’s only so much you can do in 10 hours. It was very exhausting — a lot of yelling and screaming! […] I just wanted to make it clear [at the reunion] that I do not [subscribe] to the idea that I was a hypocrite. When I said to Margaret, “I know why you did it,” it’s because I was not easy with her. Aside from the cheating things, I went at her hard at last year’s reunion. There were many aspects of the reunion where all three of them were ganging up on me, and because I held my own, they were salty and they wanted to get me back. So, when I say to Margaret, “I know why you did it,” it was like, “I get it. I pissed you off, and you wanted to hurt me.” You hurt me, I told you that you hurt me, and she seems remorseful. So I do not agree or acknowledge that I was a hypocrite. I agree that I did play a big part of it, and I own it. That was my premise going in.
On whether she thinks Teresa Giudice defends her enough: In the beginning when we were filming, there were a lot of times that she wasn’t there. She had to go for her own personal reasons, and I really did feel like I was ganged up on. She was my one ally, and even though she was supportive of me, you didn’t really see that until I had made up with Margaret. By the time I had made up with Margaret and I saw how she was going to bat for me, at that point I didn’t know how to handle it. I was like, “Wait a a second, Margaret and I made up.” She did have my back; I did believe that she had my back.
