If you’re in the market for a DIY hair mask, we investigated whether a mixture of strawberries, honey and coconut oil would do the trick.
Especially as we’re clawing our way out of the miserable part of winter that is January through March, it feels like it’s time to give yourself a little revamp.
In The Know’s Phoebe Zaslav was looking for a solution to dull hair that didn’t require her shelling out money for new products.

“My hair has been all sorts of dull lately,” she says in the video above. “I’ve been meaning to try a remedy.”
An all-natural option is making a hair mask out of strawberries and honey. Strawberries can moisturize your scalp and help bring shine back to your hair — exactly what Phoebe was looking for.
“This hair mask requires only three ingredients and not only are they scrumptious, but they’re definitely items you may already have in your kitchen,” Phoebe says.
Ingredients:
- 6-8 strawberries
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of honey
“Combine all of these ingredients in a blender and blend until it’s at a smoothie-like consistency,” Phoebe says. “I blended for about five seconds.”
If you can manage to avoid eating the mixture, then apply the mask onto your damp hair, starting from the scalp and going down to the ends.
“You’re supposed to leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse with warm water,” Phoebe explains.
Phoebe’s verdict? The hair mask wasn’t at all what she expected.
“It definitely worked, my hair is super shiny,” Phoebe says in the clip. “I guess I’m not used to my hair looking so flat.”
Overall, Phoebe recommends trying out the hair mask if you have the time — and if you want an extra boost of shininess and softness.
“It smells so good and feels super duper soft and like new,” she says.
