Chances are, you’ve seen models rocking luscious, wavy beach hair. Unlike actual beach hair, which is clogged with sand, salt and sweat, you can fake the look with a curling iron and the right hair spray.

Sea salt sprays promise to give your hair that same beachy, textured look, but the problem is that the salt can be really drying. Not to mention, if the spray contains alcohol, it can fade color-treated hair. As someone who has bleach-blond, fine, straight hair, I’m obsessed with Ouai Wave Spray.

Ouai Wave Spray is a salt-free spray that uses rice protein and coconut water to enhance the texture of your hair and create more voluminous, beachy waves that shine. To use, mist it on damp or dry hair, from your roots to your ends. (Pro tip: Start with a little, and you can always add more.)

Personally, I have really straight hair, so I need a hot tool to create more defined waves. I use a thin straightener to wave my hair, and then I spray it with Ouai’s Wave Spray to add texture and hold for the final step of my styling. Ouai’s website also suggests using their wave spray with a diffuser for more definition, braiding hair for smaller waves, or scrunching and twisting hair for a more natural wavy look.

Ouai, pronounced “way,” comes from celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin. You may have seen her with the Kardashians or on vacation with her good friend Chrissy Teigen. And her hair products are seriously great.

I’ve tried quite a few of Ouai’s products, and I’ve loved them all. Not to mention, the products smell amazing. The wave spray smells like the brand’s North Bondi scent, which is a more floral fragrance with notes of bergamot, lemon, rose, violet and white musk. (I love the scent so much, I also bought the perfume.)

You can find the Ouai Wave Spray at stores like Sephora, Ulta and on Ouai’s website for $26. If you’re not ready to commit to the full size though, you can also get a smaller travel size for $12 to start.

Take it from someone who’s on their third bottle. For more effortless (or at least effortless-looking) summertime hair, this spray is a solid buy.
