Every second counts when you’re trying to get your family ready in the morning, especially when it comes to packing lunches. But preparing healthy lunches for your kids when the clock is not on your side can be tricky. Luckily, TikTok users are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to cutting corners in the morning. Here are five lunchbox hacks that will help save you time.

1. Thermos lunchbox hack

TikTok user Christine (@amidstthechaos) has the perfect hack for keeping hot lunches hot throughout the day. She fills up her kid’s insulated food container with hot water for a few minutes before adding the food. Not only does this heat the container, but the food will also stay hotter for longer!

2. Self-serve lunchbox hack

Lunchboxes will pack themselves with this hack from TikToker Shannon Doherty (@athomewithshannon). Doherty places her kids’ favorite foods into clear bins, each labeled with categories such as veggies, protein, whole grains, etc. Then she organizes the containers on a kitchen trolley. Voila, a grab-and-go lunch station that saves time and allows kids a degree of independence.

3. Lunchbox prep hack

Food prep chefs raising mini food prep chefs will love this hack from TikToker Erin Burr (@erin.burr). Burr slices fruits and veggies in advance, so packing lunches is a breeze. To keep apple slices from browning, soak them in a lemon-water mixture. Depending on how consistent your kids’ appetites are, you can even pre-pack sandwiches and have them ready to go in the refrigerator!

4. ‘Keep PB&J fresh’ lunchbox hack

No one likes a sandwich with soggy bread. Luckily TikToker and mom Andrea Jones (@coolpodusa) has a simple hack for keeping peanut butter and jelly fresh for lunchtime. Jones spreads a layer of peanut butter on both sides of the bread before adding jelly. The peanut butter will act as a barrier to prevent any jelly juices from soaking into the bread. To borrow a phrase from Jones, “Lunchbox perfection!”

5. Leftover crust lunchbox hack

Many kids are strictly crusts-off when it comes to their sandwiches. Luckily, TikToker Kathy M (@kathymlifestyle) has the perfect hack to keep crusts and other food scraps from becoming waste. She uses some leftovers to put in a quesadilla for her other child and the rest she mashes up into croutons. Two meals, one crust!
