Parents reveal heart-stopping photos are just an illusion: ‘I almost had a heart attack’

These parents shared how they took jaw-dropping photos on the edge of a cliff without putting themselves or their kids in danger!

Rocio Ocampo (@momdutyblog) is an Instagrammer and mom of twins who is traveling around the world with her family. Rocio recently shared a series of heart-stopping photos from her family’s trip to Rio de Janeiro, which seem to show her family posing dangerously close to the edge of a cliff—and even hanging off of it.

Rocio then revealed that the seemingly dangerous photos were just an illusion!

In her Instagram post, Rocio started by sharing a photo of her husband seemingly hanging off the edge of a cliff. In the photo, her husband clings the rock with a look of fear on his face. The couple’s son stands over Rocio’s husband, laughing, as he steps on his father’s fingers.

The cliff appears to be a tiny outcropping at the top of a mountain, with a several hundred foot drop below it. However, all is not as it seems.

In her next post, Rocio shares a video revealing exactly how the photo was taken. Rather than put her family in danger for the sake of a photo, Rocio travelled to Telegraph Rock in the West part of Rio de Janeiro. The rock, which is a popular tourist attraction, is located at the end of a hiking trail and looks out over the ocean.

From the right angle, the rock appears to extend out over the water, with nothing beneath it. But in reality, there is a second outcropping of rock just a few feet below it.

“This place is famous for that illusion that you’re hanging from a cliff, but actually you are about 3 feet from the ground,” Rocio’s tour guide explains in the video.

Instead of risking a long drop into the ocean, Rocio’s family was just risking a 3 foot fall onto the rock beneath them!

Rocio and her family used the illusion to great effect. In one photo, Rocio and her husband stand on the rock, while their daughter pretends to kick their son off of it. In another, Rocio’s daughter does a backbend at the very edge of the outcropping. In yet another, Rocio herself sits at the edge of the cliff, looking off into the distance.

Instagrammers couldn’t get enough of Rocio’s family photos at Telegraph Rock.

“Wow, epic post,” wrote one Instagrammer.

“Girl, I almost had a heart attack,” joked another viewer.

When taking photos for social media, it’s important to remember to stay safe! That cliff face or waterfall might look like the perfect photo location, but it’s important not to take unnecessary risks when taking photos. Instead, follow Rocio’s lead and seek out breathtaking photo locations that are also safe. After all, it’s not worth risking your life for a photo!
