Disney guest shares ‘ridiculous’ experience getting stuck in Animal Kingdom’s lion enclosure

One group of Disney guests got an unexpected experience while venturing on the Kilimanjaro Safari ride earlier this week.

The Kilimanjaro Safari is an attraction exclusive to Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida. Guests take an open-air vehicle through a guided tour of the Harambe Wildlife Reserve, which houses 34 species that roam free on the 110 acres of land. The animals include crocodiles, wildebeests, lions, elephants, hippopotamuses and black rhinoceroses.

The excursion, according to the Disney site, takes around 18 minutes. But one TikToker captured the moment a tour group stopped for over 40 minutes.

TikTok user Katelin (@purely_katelin) filmed the tour being fascinated by a lion walking around just a couple feet away from the vehicle. But the sense of awe and wonder began to wear off after the group found themselves stuck in the lion enclosure.

“30 minutes later … still stuck in the lion enclosure,” Katelin narrated. “Haven’t moved, no one — this lady driving has no idea why.”

In a follow-up video, Katelin explained, “Here’s the deal y’all: They’re evacuating us with a ladder, and we have to walk the rest of the way.”

The visitors — which include families with young children, as Katelin showed some moms carrying their kids — had to walk across metal chains and cattle grid, which are methods used to keep the animals from wandering into other enclosures.

“Now we’re on a walking safari with toddlers,” Katelin said. “This is ridiculous.”

The group then figured out what had caused the evacuation — a vehicle’s front wheel had completely buckled and broken, blocking the path used for all of the tours.

As for compensation from Disney, Katelin said in a comment that Disney gave guests “ONE lightning lane pass for Animal Kingdom,” which gives access to a separate entrance to attractions and rides with shorter lines.

“What made that so miserable is that there were toddlers with us, it was in the sun and no one was telling us what was going on,” Katelin concluded. “Can you imagine that? That’s ridiculous.”

According to commenters, getting stuck on the safari ride didn’t seem too uncommon.

“We got stuck for like 15 minutes because the giraffes weren’t moving,” one person said. “It was cute but the sun was hitting us directly.”

“In my experience it’s usually a giraffic jam,” another joked.

“We got stuck for 20 minutes because rhinos were in the road,” another added. “Then a truck came and dropped some food to move them.”
