Woman heartbroken after discovering her best friend’s major lie: ‘[She] knew I was getting cheating on’

A woman isn’t sure if she can trust her best friend after a major betrayal. 

She asked Reddit’s “Relationship Advice” forum to weigh in. When she found out her boyfriend had been cheating on her, she turned to her best friend for advice. But soon after, she learned that her best friend had known about the infidelity for months. 

“My best friend knew I was getting cheated on and didn’t tell me until I found out myself,” she explained. “I was with my boyfriend for two years, and although we kept our relationship private from many, my best friend knew about us and how serious we were. Fast forward to our two-and-a-half-year mark, he started acting distant and weird out of nowhere.”

“But [he] wanted to stay together even though we were arguing every day and didn’t seem to get along anymore. I told my friend this and she would always give me advice on how to handle this and stay with him. We ended up breaking up. It wasn’t until two months after that I found out he had been cheating on me toward the end of the relationship with one of our mutual friend’s girlfriends.”

When she spoke to the mutual friend about the situation, she discovered some disappointing news. 

“I informed my other friend (whose girlfriend was the girl he cheated with),” she wrote. “He informed me that my best friend had known that he was cheating on me since before we broke up since he had asked my best friend for advice and told her all about this.”

“Basically, my best friend knew what was going on for two months and not only didn’t tell me but when I told her that I found out, acted surprised about it. I feel so conflicted because I don’t have many friends and losing her would be devastating but I’m not sure if I can view her as a friend anymore either.”

Redditors thought the best friend was anything but a friend. 

“With friends like that, who needs enemies?” someone commented. 

“Wow, that is beyond wrong,” another said. 

“She just sounds like a horrible friend,” a person added.
